Introduction

The institute, formerly known as Master Program of Department of Mathematics and Science Education， was first founded in 1998. Within the last decade, its name and structure has been reorganized several times：

• 1998：Master Program of Department of Mathematics and Science Education
• 2000：Graduate Institute of Mathematics and Science
• 2004：Master Program of Department of Mathematics Education＆ Master Program of Department of Science Education
• 2005：Master Program of Department of applied Mathematics＆ Master Program of Department of applied Science
• 2009：Receiving authorization from the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, Graduate Institute of Mathematics and Science Education was founded.

The Institute provides master’s and in-service master’s degree in mathematics and science education, both are aimed to cultivate mathematics and science teachers and education researchers. The program courses are composed of required courses, core selected courses, and general selected courses. Students have to finish 33 credit hours before graduate. The Institute has 7 full-time faculty members and about 130 students. Faculties all received their Ph.D. from internationally famous universities with proficient specialty and extraordinary teaching.

The important goals of the Institute are:

1. To cultivate excellent quality elementary and middle school teachers good at both theory and practice in mathematics and science education.
2. To enhance the research abilities of students, and promote the academic development of math and science education.
3. To provide consultation in order to help the innovation of math and science education in elementary school, middle school, and high school, and to cultivate popular math and science literacy.
4. To develop and design education products, to promote the cooperation between education and cultural industries, and to create the possibility of enterprise management in education.

Field of study and the characteristics and advantages：

The Institute is an independent research institute in Taiwan is currently the only primary school mathematics education and science education integration. Entering the institute advantageously promotion mathematics education and science education expertise and to master the international mathematical education research trends and pulsating. Our course includes mathematics education research and teaching theoretical mathematical foundation, methodology, practical courses, and mathematical education product development.
